Construction underway
Extent: Refurbishment, extension and landscaping to Grade II Listed Building, converting former house and butchers into family home and work studio
Chelsea Villa is a detached Georgian house set within a charming village just outside Bath. Built in 1820, the rear of the house became the village butchers in 1880 with stone outbuildings to the side used as the village slaughterhouse. Local understanding is that the buildings remained in this use right up to the 1940s.
The project here was to remove a series of 1970s alterations at the back of the house and connect the slaughterhouse building to the Regency house to create a large family home with office space for our practice. The ground floor butchers will become an open office with the original features preserved in situ. The link section of the new work has been designed to work with the history of the building with stone, terracotta Pantiles, new glazing using reclaimed cast-iron factory windows, all to form a large central kitchen/ dining area.
